Thru the Bible – Day 17

If you use Facebook, we are posting these each day on our page there, and we will also post these here each day. We welcome your thoughts here or on Facebook.

Day 17 – Thru the Bible

Today we start the second book of the Bible – Exodus. Exodus is the fulfillment of God’s promises to make Israel a great nation, and He promises, “I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again” (Gen. 46:4).

Video – Read Scripture: Exodus 1-18

Today’s video gives us the overview of the first half of Exodus.

What caught your attention in the video?

Exodus 1What does verse 1:7 reveal about the promise God made to Abraham in Genesis?

Exodus 2Who named Moses? What does Moses’ background tell you about the type of people God chooses to use?

Also note, God’s protection of his appointed deliverer occurs as Moses is delivered from Pharaoh’s decree of death. This calls to mind how Jesus, God’s appointed deliverer of his people, was delivered from Herod’s decree of death (Matthew 2:13–23).

Exodus 3What about the “burning bush” encounter catches your attention?

How does God revealing His name to be “l am” point us toward Jesus?

Psalm 17 – Combining the themes of Psalms 15 and 16, in this psalm David praises his Savior as vindicator and refuge.

What spiritual descriptions that David writes about here do we see made flesh in the incarnation of Jesus?

What other thoughts or questions does today’s reading bring up?

Some of these notes are from the ESV Gospel Transformation Bible study notes. We highly recommend this study Bible.
